The Disney Reggae Club

Various Artists - The Disney Reggae Club - Walt Disney Records 2010

A new CD from Walt Disney Records, “The Disney Reggae Club,” hit stores on June 8, 2010. The CD features classic Disney songs recorded by a number of the top reggae musicians.

Executive Producer of the CD, Brian Malouf, said about the album:

“The genius of Disney songs is that they are timeless and adaptable to every musical genre. Reggae is so joyous and spirited, we knew these songs would lend themselves perfectly. I’m happy to say the artistes, many of them true legends of reggae, all jumped at the chance to participate.”

This is what UKRG has to say about it:

Where do I start? An album of Disney’s classic songs performed by Reggae’s royalty. I admit it sounds like it wouldn’t work – but it does!

All of the songs with the exception of Ziggy Marley’s “what a wonderful world” are from Disney films and most work well ‘inna reggae stylee’. The highlight here is Matisyahu’s ‘Circle of life’ which he makes his own, it is perhaps the only track which could stand alone. There are however a number of good tracks to be had on this album.

Listening to ‘Wonderful world’ you could be listening to The Wailers backing Bob, the Easy Star All Stars with Michael G’s version of “everybody wants to be a cat” is also a great track whilst Morgan Heritage’ “The lion sleeps tonight” is made for the summer, I could go on but suffice to say once you get past the novelty value of this project you will still find it worth listening to again

All told this album will surprise you with the quality of the tracks and how well it works, it is a real feel good album. I am still coming to terms with Steel Pulse singing “the bare necessities” – another strong track made their own.
